Inland Empire VHF Radio Amateurs Club
Regular Meeting
March 11, 2010
Attendance: 25 persons signed the attendance sheet.
VE report: AA7RT, Mary, reported a total of 12 persons took their amateur radio license exams. Two achieved their technician license, seven became General Class license holders, and 3 were unsuccessful in passing their exams. We congratulate those who passed their exams, and invite those who didn’t pass to try again as soon as possible.
Election Committee: The election committee is in the process of accepting nominees for the 2010-2011 elections for officers and directors. Contact Jim (K7JJP) for more info at k7jjp@arrl.net.
April club meeting: On April 8, plan to attend this meeting for a class called RDF 101 (Fox hunting/rabbit hunting/transmitter hunting). A “how to” demonstration will be given along with a 30-minute informal video presentation of what this exciting amateur radio activity involves, the practical applications, and the social benefits to be enjoyed.
Boy Scout Merit Badge Clinic: The VHF club is the lead club in this excellent activity. Mike-KD7GHZ is recruiting volunteers (17 needed) to share their knowledge and skills in radio communications with the scouts at the clinic to be held on June 12 at the LDS facility at Evergreen and 16th avenue.
Treasurer’s report: Treasurer Dave Baird-K7DWB suggested that members who have ideas for use of the club’s general funds for projects that would benefit amateur radio in general, contact any board member or director with those ideas.
Tonight’s guest speaker: Rob Fisher-WA7RF: “Can You Hear Me Now? The Current State of Amateur Radio.” Rob demonstrated numerous modes, listed the equipment needed to use these modes, and piqued everyone’s interest in the amazing world of digital communications. Rob demonstrated the audio sounds that can be expected when listening on the bands. Rob offered to “elmer” anyone interested in building a digital station for his or her own home QTH.
Meeting adjourned shortly after 2000 hours.
