Inland Empire VHF Radio Amateurs Club
Regular Meeting
May 14, 2009
The meeting began at approximately 1845 hours, local time, at Spokane Community College, room 251, President Mike Grounds, KE7PG presiding. The late meeting start was due to the unusually large number of VE test candidates.
The first order of business, annual election of club officers, was briefly delayed because some of the members were still involved in VE testing in an adjacent room. Instead, Mike Carey, KD7GHZ, announced the 2009 Field Day event to be held at Valley Ford County Park on June 27 and 28. Mike announced that this club has been invited to join the Lilac City Amateur Radio Club and the 10-10 club. Mike "volunteered" the club repeater 146.880 as the talk-in frequency for this event. Mike announced that the event call sign at field day will be the Lilac City’s call sign, N7LC. Mike made several copies of maps of the Valley Ford area available, and urged members to visit the ARRL web site which has a Field Day locator page available.
VE testing results: Mary, AA7RT, reported that a total of 20 persons took FCC exams at this testing session. Fifteen candidates successfully passed the technician class exam. Two candidates successfully passed the general class exam. One candidate successfully passed the extra class exam.
Election ballots were then passed out to all persons attending this meeting who were eligible to vote (membership dues up to date), and voting commenced. The ballots were collected; the votes were then counted by WB7RED, Red, and two volunteers in an adjoining room.
While ballots were being counted, outgoing president Mike Grounds spoke a departing message to the group. Mike advised how important it is for the entire membership to work with the board to produce a successful club.
WB7RED, Red, announced the election results:
President: Mike Carey, KD7GHZ
Vice President: Jim Pernsteiner, K7JJP
Secretary: Don Vogel, WA7BAA
Treasurer: Dave Baird, K7DWB
Director: Jack Tiley, AD7FO
The newly elected president, Mike Carey asked the group to stand and give outgoing president Mike Grounds a round of applause in appreciation for his hard work and dedication for the past three years as club president. A certificate of appreciation and a gift card was also presented to Mike G.
President Carey then presented the new board to the membership, and speaking for himself and the new officers, pledged his personal dedication to serve the club to the best of his ability. Mike urged the membership to communicate their wishes to the board via emails. All board member email addresses may be seen on the club’s web site at
