Regular Meeting

May 13, 2010

 

Meeting began at 1835 hours, local time, President Mike Carey presiding.

 

Members’ introductions were followed by announcements:

 

  1. Fox Hunts:  Don-WA7BAA, announced his intention to set up the first fox (transmitter) hunt of the season.  Details will be announced on the club net, Wednesday night, May 19.
  2. Field Day:  Valleyford County Park, last weekend in June (June 26, 27).  Setup can begin on Friday, June 25 at 1:00 PM.  Barbeque, soft drinks provided.  
  3. VHF contest is being planned for the club.  Details to follow. 
  4. DXpedition:  A  mountaintop DXpedition is being planned.  Location(s) to be determined.  Contact W7JRB for details.  (Visit www.vhfclub.org) for contact information.
  5. Annual Christmas Party at the Timber Creek Grille.  (Just in case you’ve forgotten)

 

VE team report:  AA7RT-Mary reported:  5 candidates passed their technician class exams.  2 candidates passed their extra class exams.

 

Announcement:  Dave Baird-K7DWB announced that on June 12, 2010, at the LDS chapel on 16th and Evergreen in the Spokane Valley, a day for training has been set up for newly licensed amateurs.  This event replaces the previously planned Scouting Merit Badge seminar. Commencing at 9:00 AM, bring your own radio to learn how to operate and program the radio.

 

Elections:

 

Ballots were distributed, candidates were given opportunity to speak, ballots were collected and counted.  

 

Presentation:

 

K7GPS-Dave Dobbins (ddobbins@gmail.com) presented a power point program (APRS 101) introducing the fascinating practice of Amateur Radio Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS) operation.
